We are in June, um June 9th through June 15th for this podcast. And our June theme is, I think, kind of a fun theme. It's combining Old Testament and New Testament. So, in my opinion, um, the New Testament is richer, uh, it's more meaningful when you know the Old Testament part two. Like they they go together.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they're not two different things.
SPEAKER_00And and it's not, oh, I don't need the old because I have the new. You know, like when you buy a new toaster, you get rid of the old toaster because you don't need it anymore. No, you need the old and the new. They're they're both God's word, they're connected, they provide meaning to each other. So um let's dive in.
SPEAKER_02Let's do it.
SPEAKER_00So June 9th, our scriptures are Deuteronomy chapter 6, verses 4 through 9, and Matthew 22, 34 through 40. Um, it's the greatest commandment. You probably remember uh in Matthew in the New Testament when Jesus was asked, What is the greatest commandment? And they, of course, were thinking of the ten commandments, which one of those. Right. And he didn't even name one of those.
SPEAKER_02Nope.
SPEAKER_00He went back to Deuteronomy.
SPEAKER_02But if you go back and look at the Ten Commandments as they're listed, he really does summarize them.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02You know, love your God with all your heart, your soul, and the first three relationship with God. Talks about that. And then transitional one, keep the Sabbath, and the last six is your relationship with other people.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So well, I kind of feel like keep the Sabbath is loving God.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02That's it falls on that cave.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um so yeah. So in Deuteronomy, it's uh love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength. Um, sometimes it says with all your mind.
SPEAKER_02Um Matthew has mind.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um, but it's it's the same thing. And Deuteronomy, when it was introduced, it was like it, it really was the greatest commandment. It's like this, on top of everything, this is what you need to do. You have to love God with everything. Yeah, I mean, there's nothing left. Heart, soul, strength, mind.
SPEAKER_02Impress it on your children, talk when you're at home, when you walk on the road. Again, there was no buses or anything, no cars, so you walked, and naturally, I guess you would write it when you lie down, so when you get up, when you lie down, so it covers all things. Write it on your doorframe and on your gates, you know. And our friend Howie gave us something that's on our doorframe. I forget what it's called.
SPEAKER_00It's called a mazuza. A mazuza, yeah. Yeah. And you know, someone who is maybe of Jewish descent, I I may totally screw that up. Um, there is also something called the Shima. So I don't know if the Shima is the scroll inside. Yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And and so, yeah, we have this on our door frame. It's in a little plastic thing. Um, and the scroll is inside, and on the scroll is written, love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And we have that on our our door frame um inside our house. And I I I love that. I I really do. I love that we have that in our house. Um and the the Israelites, God's people, this is what was given to them, yeah. Told how important it was. And so for in the New Testament, for the um Pharisees to say, so which commandment is the greatest? Like, buddy, do you do you not know? Yeah, you need to let go of all those, because they they kind of went from the Ten Commandments and they went all sorts of more and more rules.
SPEAKER_02Like, oh my god. Rule driven, right?
SPEAKER_00You know, they had some committee meeting, and whoo. It's like, no, it's this love God. And and that's what Jesus says. He said, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first, and it was, it came out before the Ten Commandments came out. This is the first and greatest commandment. And then he says, and the second is like it love your neighbor as yourself. All of the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments. Bam.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. This this is it, you know. And it's I always like love your neighbor as yourself. Which not everybody loves themselves, right?
SPEAKER_00I think sometimes it's in this we you know could get into a big psychological thing. I think people maybe love themselves, but they don't like themselves.
SPEAKER_02Could be, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But they may still look out for number one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00If something came down to it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But yeah. So, but it's again, this is Jesus' message to us, right? And the only difference is one has strength, one has mind.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know, but love your heart, love your with all your heart, with your soul and your mind.
SPEAKER_00And think if we did what Moses told them to do. What if before we got up out of bed, we said, I'm gonna love the Lord my God with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my strength. Um, you know, as we're moving through the day, when we get into our car, um before we have a meal, um, before we go to bed, if we are constantly saying that, that is gonna keep God in the forefront. That's gonna keep God as the most important, which is where we should be.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that coworker that always bugs you. When you see that co-worker approach, say, I'm gonna love the Lord with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind, all my strength.
SPEAKER_00And I'm gonna love my neighbor as well.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna love my neighbor as myself. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yep. Yep. All right.
SPEAKER_02Simple yet profound, right? Easy concept, really hard to implement.
SPEAKER_00And if you didn't refer back to the Old Testament, if you didn't know where that came from, when you read this about Jesus saying it, what are you thinking? Like, do you do you think he just made that up?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Or you're like, well, where did that come from? No, look, you you gotta go back. Yeah, you gotta see where it came from.
SPEAKER_02You gotta see the source, yeah. Yeah, yeah. And it's another link between Jesus and the Old Testament, right? It's just it's not a new thing, right?
SPEAKER_00So yeah. All right, June 10th is Exodus chapter 3, uh, verse 4, and then 10 through 12. And there's another Old Testament one, 2 Kings chapter 2, verse 11, and then New Testament, Matthew 17, 1 through 3. And the reason there's two Old Testament ones is because this the New Testament scripture is the transfiguration. So it's when Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up the mountain, and he is transfigured, his face shines like the sun, his clothes become as white as the light, and there appeared before them Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus. Okay, right there. Moses and Elijah should be two from Mount Rushmore.
SPEAKER_02It yeah, maybe.
SPEAKER_00I mean, come on.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. It's hard to get to four.
SPEAKER_00Um so there's two Old Testament scriptures because it's in case you didn't know who Moses was and didn't know who Elijah was, right? That's what the the scriptures are, is just one story about each of them. Yeah. But my question is you ready? How did they know it was Moses and Elijah?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. I don't know. I thought the same thing every time I've read it. How would they know?
SPEAKER_00There's no photographs. No. Like, oh, he looks just like, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And Jesus was transfigured before them just as there, just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus. Unless they asked them afterwards.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02I mean, that's that's you know, which is possible. Yeah, but still think of that. Uh Jesus, who were that was Moses and Elijah. Moses and Elijah. You know. Yeah. That was Moses and Elijah. So we've seen Moses.
SPEAKER_00I really thought he'd be taller. Yeah, or something.
SPEAKER_02You know, where's his staff? Because I want to see him drop it, make a snake, you know, or something. You know.
SPEAKER_00I'm thinking he had it.
SPEAKER_02Oh, sure. And Elijah never died.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02Right. He went up to heaven, you know. Cherry, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Cherry of fire. Yeah, or the second Kings scripture for June 10th is uh when Elijah is taken up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, but I agree. How did they know? And it had to be, it didn't have to be, but one is that Jesus explained to them afterwards. And when Matthew wrote this, he didn't include that reference. But the transfiguration is other places, it never says Jesus told them.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Yeah, I know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Can you imagine being there?
SPEAKER_00Peter, James, and John. I know. I mean one, they see him transfigured.
SPEAKER_02What is that?
SPEAKER_00That has to be a little freaky.
SPEAKER_02And then these two people are talking to him. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And did they understand their conversation? And maybe that's where they figured out. Maybe they heard them talking, heard what they were talking about, and figured out it was Moses and Elijah from the conversation.
SPEAKER_02I guess. What would they have said?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly. What were they talking about?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I mean, was Moses telling Jesus the burning bush story? And Elijah said, you know, cherries five, you know, I'm thinking I never died.
SPEAKER_00Or is Jesus like, so how's it going up in heaven? Yeah, what's happening? I'm coming pretty soon. Yeah. How's it going up there? Everything okay? Yeah. Do I need to bring anything with me?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I gotta prepare some rooms. My father, is that done? Where are the rooms at? Oh, we don't ask him that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02If you want to talk to your dad about the rooms, go ahead. But yeah, we don't have that.
SPEAKER_00So kind of a interesting, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And probably a question you could ask all sorts of people. And I don't know what you know. Maybe you should ask our pastor, Dan. Have you asked him that?
SPEAKER_00Um, how they knew it was Moses and Elijah? Yeah. No, but I will.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00We will see what he says.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I like that.
SPEAKER_02Good stuff, though. Yeah, it really is. And again, another piece that all kind of, you know. And Jesus spoke to Moses and Elijah, right?
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Yeah. And yeah, you gotta know who Moses and Elijah are to realize the significance of them being the ones to come down.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I I don't I don't know. Why Elijah not like Isaiah?
SPEAKER_02I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Or David.
SPEAKER_02Or David. Or David.
SPEAKER_00I I don't know. Moses, I get.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. Let him out, right? You know, and then did all that stuff, you know.
SPEAKER_00He yeah, he did a lot. I that's why I think he should be on the Mount Rushmore, but um. Hopefully, if you're listening, you have listened to a lot of these, or you have no idea what we're talking about. But there was one time when Steve challenged us to come up if there was a biblical Mount Rushmore, who would our four people be?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I don't know if I said this then, but yes, you did.
SPEAKER_00No Jesus, no, no Jesus, no Holy Spirit.
SPEAKER_02I mean, clearly that's that's a separate that's a gimme. Yeah. So who is it? And um you asked a guy at church, and his was Isaiah. Isaiah. Was it Ezekiel?
SPEAKER_00I don't remember now. I just remember Isaiah, and I was like, Isaiah?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't think it was it Paul.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because he his focus was the writings.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_02And and I think it was probably David then, because he wrote the psalms and stuff.
SPEAKER_00Well, but I think whoever it was Oh, it was more history.
SPEAKER_02Writings that taught us the history and the origin. So interesting. I think Ezekiel is one.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02I think Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Paul, I don't know the fourth.
SPEAKER_00Well, good tie-in to June 11th.
SPEAKER_02Bingo, Ezekiel.
SPEAKER_00Because it is Ezekiel chapter 18, verses 30 through 32, and 2nd Corinthians 5, 17 through 21. And these are kind of um kind of interesting because it's talking about uh having a new heart, um, a new spirit, that our sins are no longer counted against us. And so that terminology is in both of these.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And second a new creation. You know. So I also like in Second Corinthians, reconciled, reconciling, reconciliation, right? I mean, emphasizing we are now reconciled with God. Right? Through Jesus. He did that for us. And and and I also like in Ezekiel, repent and live.
SPEAKER_00Well, I like the part right before that where it says, for I take no pleasure in the death of anyone. Like God doesn't want people to to die and not be with him forever. That was the whole point of him making people was to be with him. And he's like, that's not what I want. Yeah, repent and live.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like I'm giving this to you. Yeah. You just have to choose it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. And it's repent and live. I mean, it's not hard, right? There's nothing else you have to do, right? So, and through Jesus Christ, we are reconciled. We're a new creation and we're reconciled with God, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. The the last sentence of the Corinthians passage says, God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. So again, God did all the work.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00He's making it happen. You just have to choose.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. You just have to open the door. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Just got to decide to be on his team.
SPEAKER_00And sometimes that means you may need to quit doing some things that you were doing that you thought were really great, really fun, or something, but they're not what God wants you doing, and they're keeping you from that relationship with God. Um, but besides that, you just have to choose Him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And your life will be better. So those things you have to stop, your life will still be better.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And I mean you can ask you.
SPEAKER_02There's no promise of ease, of easiness. But yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. We have celebrate recovery at our church every Friday night, and we hear stories of people who were doing stuff before that they thought was, you know, fun, drugs or drinking, and and then they meet God, they're kind of woken up and they realize there's something better.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Something way better than this. And you know, I I know it's not easy for them to stop doing that stuff, but once they do, they're like, I don't want to go back.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00This is this is better. This is where I want to be. So God wants you.
SPEAKER_02God wants you. Repent and live, be reconciled.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. All right. We have another Ezekiel for June twelfth.
SPEAKER_02Correct. This is Ezekiel one.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Verses 10 and 22. And then Revelation.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Four. Um, verses six and six through seven. There's stuff like this. And I wrote up at the top, this is six hundred years apart.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Six hundred years apart. And listen to how similar these are. So Ezekiel says their faces look like this. So he's uh sees a vision. He says, This is what I saw. Each of the four had the face of a human being, and on the right side, each had the face of a lion, and on the left the face of an ox. Each also had the face of an eagle. And then Revelation says, Um, in the center around the throne were four living creatures. One the first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, and the fourth was like a flying eagle. So similar. How can that not be God?
SPEAKER_02Right. Didn't we have those already one time?
SPEAKER_00We yes.
SPEAKER_02Okay, good. Just to Yeah. But it's still the idea of you know and 600 years apart, I guess if I want to explain it, John, who wrote Revel who got the Revelation, right, he had read Ezekiel. I don't know. You know. Yeah. I mean that that that's that's an explanation not based on faith, right? But 600 years later, he sees the same vision, right? And again, it's still a man or a person, human being, a lion, an ox, and an eagle. Right.
SPEAKER_00So And they both have uh crystal. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Sparkling, clear as crystal, sparkling like crystal, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So yeah.
SPEAKER_00The one we had before was June 3rd, and um it was the similarities between Isaiah and Revelation, and it was the creatures had six wings. Yes. And they were singing holy, holy, holy. Right. So um Yeah. Yeah. And I think at that time you brought in, you mentioned the the faces had the different Yeah, and why those? Four. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Right. And if you missed that, you know, my basic uneducated guess is you know, we associate line with proud, strong, king of the jungle, ox is really, really strong, a worker, nothing is stronger, you're strong as an ox, and a flying eagle because you know, it's the greatest winged thing we know, the eagle, and man because of the thought process, you know. So I don't know if that's what it is. Um, but clearly, if you picked animals, uh including man, and you only got four, I'm not sure back to Mount Rushmore, that's a Mount Rushmore, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, very good. All right.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02So we use Mount Rushmore in case you missed it earlier, because the four presidents are Mount Rushmore. So what's quite often there's a Mount Rushmore sports, basketball, baseball. So this is what are the Mount Rushmore of the Bible?
SPEAKER_00All right, June 13th. Um I I really like this one. Um Leviticus chapter 5, 17 through 18, and Hebrews chapter 10, 1 through 7. Um I like this because sometimes um I think people may have wondered, you know, why did Jesus have to die on the cross? Why, you know, would you know, why would God even go there? But offering sacrifices is something that started way back.
SPEAKER_02Right. And God gave the direction sacrifice for this, and as animals without a blemish, you know, which I always took as one reason is that makes it a sacrifice. If you're sacrificing an animal that isn't really healthy or, you know, is not going to be very useful to you, that's hardly a sacrifice. You know, I facetiously every year for Lent give up smoking. I don't smoke. So I can give up smoking. And that's kind of a sacrificing something not very valuable isn't a sacrifice. So I think that's and Jesus became right.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes, the the sacrifice. Um in the Hebrews passage it says the law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming. And the law back then was the you sacrifice for this and that.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00And um it then Hebrews continues to say, um, for this reason, it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. It's like God, I mean, God knew that wasn't going to be the the end-all answer. It's funny that the people never thought of that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know, they were like, but I sacrificed last year, why do I have to do it again? It's like paying taxes. You know, we have to file our taxes every year. Right.
SPEAKER_02It doesn't matter. Right.
SPEAKER_00Because of the the money that we made during that year. So this is the sins that we committed during that year or whatever time period it was that they did this.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um so God kind of set it up for them so they had something.
SPEAKER_02A mechanism, yeah. And maybe something tangible that they could do, right? And and our something tangible is a relationship with Jesus, is what that is, right? But even Jesus referenced some of these because when he cured somebody of leprosy, I think. Go to the temple, right? See the priest, and do what the priest tells you to do, whatever it is.
SPEAKER_00You know, yeah. But you know, so so that's where it it stemmed from. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice for all of our sins. And so the end of this passage said, Therefore, when Christ came, sacrifice, he said, sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me with burnt offerings and sin offerings, you were not pleased. And then I said, Here I am, is written about me in the scroll. I have come to do your will, my God. So he has come to be the sacrifice for our sins.
SPEAKER_02And to do his will. Right? Yes. Reinforces in the Garden of Gethsemane, where he's getting, you know, your will, not mine, Lord, right? I'm gonna do what you want me to do. And isn't that our where we are as well? We are to do what God wants us to do. Um and how do you know what God wants you to do? You have a relationship with him, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00But just think it's kind of interesting that they had so many rules. Um, and I mean, very clear cut, you do sacrifice this for that, and yah, yeah, yeah. Um and they they did it, they you know followed through with it and everything, but then Jesus comes along and goes, yeah, you know, it says, It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Right. Why why would you all think that?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But um they were told to do it and they thought, okay, this is it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we'll do it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00All right, June 14th. Um, we have uh one of my favorite stories from Judges, chapter 6, 36 through 40, and then um John 20, 19 through 20 and 24 through 29, uh, which is the John passage is about Thomas, known to us as doubting Thomas, and the story that we talked about in uh April, um with the Easter story, talking about how Thomas didn't believe that it was Jesus.
SPEAKER_02Unless I see the nail marks, put my finger in the, you know, so he he needs something concrete, something tangible to believe. Right.
SPEAKER_00And these passages are put together because um I I put up at the top, God doesn't mind when his people question or ask for proof.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean Thomas was like Yeah, and he's kind of you know doubting Thomas, right? But I think it, you know, and and when I read it, I think Thomas is saying, I hear you, everyone else, because he wasn't there the previous time Jesus, right? So he said this afterwards when he Jesus had left, but I need experience for myself. I just can't. And and I think when you talk to someone about Jesus, at some point they have to experience for themselves.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_02And that's the real life thing. And Gideon was the same way, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So the the story from the judges passage in this is when God calls Gideon, and he's like, and Gideon was like the in the lowest tribe, the lowest He was the yeah, the the the lowest family from the lowest tribe.
SPEAKER_02I mean, he was not a significant person at all.
SPEAKER_00He was as insignificant as you could probably get.
SPEAKER_02And he was at the threshing floor, he was hiding.
unknownRight?
SPEAKER_02He did it there so people wouldn't see him doing it, or they would take it from him. And he, you know, the Philistines, I guess, somebody would. So he's there and God comes to him, right?
SPEAKER_00And says, I'm gonna use you, you're gonna save Israel. And Gideon's like, mmm, okay, let's see. And and he kind of challenges God. He's like, Okay, if this is real, then um I've got this wool fleece.
SPEAKER_02I always carry one.
SPEAKER_00And um if in the morning, if there's dew only on the fleece and the ground is dry, then I'll know this is for real. And the next morning he gets up and it's exactly that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The the fleece is full of dew and the ground is very dry. It says a bowl full of water came out of the the wool, the fleece. And then Gideon goes, okay, let's let's take a look at the butt.
SPEAKER_01You know, that that was good. I think I need another one, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because maybe that was just a fluke. I mean, how many times? Oh, just so many times I and I've heard other people be like, um, well, I'm gonna wait and see if this is really from God. And then something comes up and it's like, oh, wow. Well, okay, but that came really fast.
SPEAKER_02Right. That's probably not yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna try another one. Let's see if oh so Gideon's doing the same thing. So Gideon goes, okay, okay, let's do it where the ground is really wet and the fleece is dry.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And the next morning that's how it is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So, but God wasn't angry. God didn't say, okay, Gideon, forget it. Yeah. I'm I'll go get Bob and use him instead. Right. Because he's not gonna make me jump through these hoops to prove that I'm God and that I really mean this, and that you know, like, no.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00It's okay.
SPEAKER_02It is okay.
SPEAKER_00God can handle it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't think we can intimidate God. Right? Yeah, like, oh my gosh, he's mad at me. I don't think that's on God's list.
SPEAKER_00All right, the last one for this week, June 15th. We have Exodus chapter 12, and we have Luke chapter 22. And um this is in I think next week we have it, yeah, we have it some more. Um, the Passover and parts from the Passover. Uh, the Passover started in Exodus with Moses and the Israelites. Uh, it was the last of the plagues.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Uh, when he would go to Pharaoh and say, Pharaoh, let my people go. And um then Pharaoh would change his mind, and there were, you know, all these different plagues. And this last one was the the angel of death is gonna come over. Right, and the firstborn male from every household would be would die.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And um God told Moses And I think it included like the animals too. I think I know, but it's a firstborn, you know.
SPEAKER_00So you told the the Israelites um to have a lamb for your household, kill it, put the blood of the lamb on your door jam. Yeah, threshold, yeah, yeah. And go inside. And that night, when the angel of death comes over, he sees the blood, he will pass over your house, and no one will die. And it was that plague when Pharaoh finally said, Okay, leave. Yeah, I give you permission to go.
SPEAKER_02And part of that is what happened, and when that was all taking place, either before or right then, the Egyptians gave gold and silver to the Israelites. You know, so they plundered Egypt on their way out of town. So, but that's the origin of Passover, and people who are Jewish still celebrate Passover.
SPEAKER_00Yes, the Seder meal. And uh it was called this the festival of unleavened bread.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because don't wait for the bread to rise, just make bread so you have something to take with you, you know.
SPEAKER_00And so in Luke, um it starts out it says, Then came the day of unleavened bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed, and Jesus sent Peter and John saying, Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover, and that leads to the Last Supper.
SPEAKER_02Correct. And the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed, which was ultimately Jesus. Correct.
SPEAKER_00So uh again, how do you celebrate Easter and read the Easter story if you don't understand where the Passover lamb, the festival of unleavened bread, all of that comes from?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00It's something they did, and as you said, still do every year.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Every year, like we celebrate Christmas every year. Yeah, they celebrate the Passover every year. This is where it came from, this is what it means.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Uh mentioned before Howie college roommate, uh, how he's Jewish. Uh and for Passover and that whole week, eat kosher. Wouldn't eat kosher all the time, but eat kosher. I remember his mom would send him noodle pudding that we would share. It was a dessert with noodles, but it was kosher. You know, and some of the students who are Jewish went to a local synagogue near campus to have, you know, but but yeah, celebrated still. Boom. That every year Passover still happens. Um and you know, I always thought, should we be having the Passover? Right. Think about that on what would be good Friday for us.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00All right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's good.
