SPEAKER_01Yeah, there you go.
SPEAKER_00And make us a podcast sandwich. Uh the opportunity to leave us fan mail is also available on the podcast. We would love to hear from you.
SPEAKER_01We would. That'd be exciting.
SPEAKER_00We really haven't gotten any true fan mail yet. I mean, I test ran it once, and a friend of mine did just to show that it was as easy to do as just texting on your phone. Um, it will not give me your phone number. It will not give you my phone number. So you don't have to worry that I'm gonna be harassing you or asking you to, I don't know, do something for me. So uh feel free to leave us your thoughts, your questions, um, what whatever. All right. So we are we started the month of June on the last podcast, but we only got one day in. Uh so we are full.
SPEAKER_01So you repeat listeners got that last time, last week.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes. Um the month of June, every day has an old testament passage and a new testament passage, and they aren't just random passages, they are paired together because they're talking about the same thing and often give clarification as to what they're talking about or what it means, or the the I don't know, just like the real oomph behind it. Like, why are we even talking about this? Like, well, if you read the Old Testament, you would know that there's a reason for it. So here we go. You ready to jump in?
SPEAKER_01Ready, ready, ready.
SPEAKER_00All right, June 2nd has a passage from Leviticus, everyone's favorite book, chapter 11, verses 1 through 8, and then Acts, chapter 10, uh, verses 9 through 15. And I titled this food, to eat or not to eat? That is the question.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, Hamlet. Because And Hamlet's very appropriate for this topic.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Um the Leviscus Leviticus passage uh is the Lord talking to Moses and Aaron, and he's telling them what they can eat and what they can't eat. Now some people would think, I don't know, is he being I don't know, like controlling, say you can only eat this, don't eat that. But I've heard some people say part of it was for their or maybe all of it was um for their health.
SPEAKER_01Well, their health or you are separate. You are a distinct group of people. You are my people. So you are different than the Philistines who are around, or the Egyptians, right? I've called you to follow me, right? I don't that's it, but they've always said uh pig, pork, if not cooked correctly, can make you sick. Is that what it is? I I I I don't know. But I think the key world it's it's ceremonially unclean.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01So it's it's ceremonially is ceremony, right? So that's the reason it's unclean. But it's clearly, and it's always been, you may eat an animal that has a divided hoof and that chews the cud. All right. Uh a pig has a divided hoof, doesn't chew its cud. That's why pork is out if you're Jewish. Um, you know, so a rabbit chooses cud, not a divided hoof. So that you went through that a hyrax, it's some kind of little rodent type animal. I looked it up, don't remember what it was. You know, but camel the same way. So you can't eat these things, right? And it could very well be for health reasons. Um I don't know that, right? But it ends up being it did create a set of rules for the Israelites that no one else had. Right.
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh. You know, all right.
SPEAKER_01And then makes them, therefore, they are distinct, they are different.
SPEAKER_00So then, if you jump to the New Testament to Acts, um Peter, so Acts is after Jesus was crucified, after he rose. Um, this chapter 10, so it's after the Holy Spirit has come down. Um, and uh Peter has a dream that uh a sheet came down with all sorts of animals in it.
SPEAKER_01Yes, including reptiles and birds.
SPEAKER_00And a voice told him, get up, Peter, kill and eat. And Peter's like, oh my gosh, no, because he followed the rules from the library. He's like, no, no, no, I I can't do that. And God says, do not call anything impure that God has made clean. Now, I I couldn't include the whole whole story here. Um Acts chapter 10 keeps going. He has the dream a couple of times, and um oh some are you looking it up? Yes. Uh um someone sends his servants to Peter to ask him to come to his house.
SPEAKER_01Cornelius' house.
SPEAKER_00Cornelius, yes.
SPEAKER_01And Cornelius is a uh I'm trying to find that out. Stand up. I've only met myself. Cornelius relationship he was not an Israelite met him and fell and feet in reference. Uh Cornelius' house, reception, the spirit by Cornelius makes the first. He was a Gentile.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he he was a God follower, he was God fearing.
SPEAKER_01He was a centurion, so he was a Roman soldier.
SPEAKER_00Okay. And he was allowed to eat whatever.
SPEAKER_01Whatever. He didn't follow any rules. Right.
SPEAKER_00And after Peter's vision, um Cornelius sent people to to get Peter because God told Cornelius to go get Peter. So God's on both sides. Okay, you go get him and and you go get him, and you all get together, and so Peter agrees to go to him, and when he comes in, it it turns out it's not really about the food.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00But that's how God gets the message over to him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And it says, now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon, who was called Peter. He is saying, so they went. He did it right away.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. And um so when Peter got in there, he was like, Oh, okay, I understand now. God is talking about he's going to he accept you all, he loves you, yeah. You're you are part, just like we are. Uh, whereas they used to think it was just the Israelites, it was just right.
SPEAKER_01We were the select, yes, yes. But it says here, he said to them, this is Peter, you are well aware that it's against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile, but God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean. So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. I asked why you sent for me. So, I mean, this is a huge change for Peter and all the disciples, right? This is a big deal. Yes, you know, and and eat whatever, you know, and go on from there. Again, Peter, by not following the clean, unclean rules of the Israelites, Judaism, he is now saying, I'm part of the bigger group. I'm not a separate entity anymore. Right? And that's part of, I think, for me, that's part of what this really is, right? And Peter's response was no, I've never done that, right? I've never eaten anything unpure, right?
SPEAKER_00So yeah, and in my opinion, you understand this so much more if you know that since Leviticus and Moses, yeah, this is what they've been following.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And that's that's a huge deal. It's like, I don't know what we do that could compare to it. I mean, actually, there's nothing, but um, you know, we're New York Yankee fans. Prior to being married to Steve, I was not a New York Yankee fan. I knew of them.
SPEAKER_01Were you even a baseball fan?
SPEAKER_00No. No. But I have now learned that the New York Yankees are the best. And it's true.
SPEAKER_01It's true.
SPEAKER_00And I love baseball now. Um, so I I have moved into that from nothing. And and I know that's not even a decent comparison at all. But again, since Moses, they have not eaten these animals.
SPEAKER_01I thought when you said you're a Yankee fan, you were going to use the example, and you have to be a baseball fan to know this. I hate the Boston Red Sox. Hate them. It's like God telling me, Steve, you now need to be a Red Sox fan. Ooh.
SPEAKER_00Whoa.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. So I think, but that was, you know, his whole life. Yeah, even his time with Jesus, he followed. I right, right. But that didn't change, you know. Jesus said, the woman at the well, you shouldn't talk to me. Right?
SPEAKER_00Peter had the vision, and even the vision kind of spooked him out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00He's like, no, no, whoa. I am what the heck? I am not eating those things.
SPEAKER_01And in classic Peter language.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Get up, Peter, kill and eat. Surely not, Lord. Like, once again, man, you know, I know you're God and you're the Lord, but really? Are you serious? So great. And I think it's fun that it's both, right? To learn, you know. And the hyrax, as we wrap up, is related to the elephant and the manatee.
SPEAKER_00That's a combo.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. You know, the hyrax is one of the animals you can't use.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_01But it's, I guess it's the whatever, you know, biological family group is included with the elephant and the manatee. Smaller little cousin, I think.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, this is kind of fun, I think, that we have these.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So it in you know, comparing that the God was saying the food is not unclean because I I created it. He's saying um, these people, the Gentiles, those who you all aren't including into um hearing about Jesus, you know, they they wouldn't even preach to them. Well, they went to the temple. They need to know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. That's right. I mean, Peter healed someone at the temple. So they went to the temple because that's what they did. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, it's it's so it's just not what you eat, it's who you associate with. Right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And and most of us listening are Gentiles.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I would think so.
SPEAKER_00We if if this hadn't happened, we would still, yes. Would we even get to know who God was?
SPEAKER_01Uh no.
SPEAKER_00And be a part of his family.
SPEAKER_01No. So unless we became Jewish, I guess.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Which is hard. I mean, it's not, you know.
SPEAKER_00Right. Right. So that was a really good one to start with.
SPEAKER_01It was.
SPEAKER_00All right. June 3rd has uh Isaiah chapter 6, 1 through 3 in Revelation 4, 8.
SPEAKER_01And this is the appetizer scripture.
SPEAKER_00Because six wings. Oh boy. Oh boy. Okay. So this is one that when I saw it in both places, I was like, wow, that is pretty amazing. Um, I think Isaiah, although it's kind of in the middle of the Old Testament, it was actually written a yeah, because it's after Psalm and everything.
SPEAKER_02Yes, it is.
SPEAKER_00I think it was actually written a l a lot longer ago. I think it's one of the older books.
SPEAKER_01It looks like it's 700 BC. 739, King Uzziah's death.
SPEAKER_00So okay. So 700 BC. Uh-huh. And then we have Revelation. All right. Yeah. So probably 700, 800 years between whatever. So Isaiah is writing this, and he says, I saw the Lord high and exalted, seated on a throne, and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings. That's Steve's appetizer thing. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, with two they were flying, and they were calling to one another: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty. The whole earth is full of his glory.
SPEAKER_01And then Revelation 4.8 says each of the Which may have been 750, 800 years later.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And this is John's vision that he is seeing. Um and he says, each of the four living creatures had six wings and was his was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stopped saying, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come. So God has been seated on his throne all this time. The same God who was and is and is to come.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00And and for all that time, for seven hundred years, the creatures in in heaven are saying holy, holy, holy, holy, holy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I just think that's so cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So amazing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. And if you don't want to believe the Bible, which I do want to believe the Bible, I do believe the Bible. People could say, well, he heard the story in Isaiah. So it was planted. I again don't think so. 800 years later, you know. Yeah. Yeah. But it really is. It's also interesting. It's eyes, six wings, eyes everywhere, front and back. But four living creatures. And I've often wondered what the significance of these are. The first living creature was like a lion. The second was like an ox. The third had the face of a man. And the fourth was like a flying eagle. Okay. And as and I have, I've spent a lot of time thinking about those four creatures. Because it has to be some significance to those four creatures.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_01We all know the lion's king of the beast, right? It's the top land predator, I guess, right? The ox is associated with great strength.
SPEAKER_00And farming.
SPEAKER_01Farming, agriculture, but you know, really, you know, the plow and everything, strong as an ox, you know, so you know, so maybe it's this really strong domesticated animal, but really strong. Um, the eagle is the top flight, top bird, right? And clearly man has abilities to think and reason and talk and that the other animals don't.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So is it that for land-based animals, obviously? There's not a you know, an orca, right? You know, I guess there's no pool in heaven. Um, but it's just interesting that that what's the significance of that? Um this says it represents the noblest, strongest, wisest, and swiftest creatures. Oh lion is noblest, ox strongest, man wisest, bird, eagle swiftest. So but it's not a fluke, it was those. Right.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, but I think it's great that it is again holy, holy, holy. Right? And it's this is holy, holy, holy is Lord Almighty, who was and is and is to come.
unknownRight?
SPEAKER_01Holy, holy, holy, Lord Almighty, the whole earth is full of his glory.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes people will say, I I wonder what we'll do in heaven when we get there. I think this is what we're doing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think once we are in the presence of God.
SPEAKER_01That's what you do.
SPEAKER_00That it's all you can do.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I think there's that. There's also specific times, like at Disney World, Snow White will be here at two o'clock. Moses will be here. Thursdays at two, you know. Mod for 20 minutes. You can just meet Chand R.
SPEAKER_00Oh, all right. June 4th, we have the feeding of many with little.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00And it's in 2 Kings chapter 4, verses 42 through 44. And one of the references is Matthew chapter 15. There's many. But there's several. Several, right.
SPEAKER_01And this is Elisha. Right?
SPEAKER_00Correct.
SPEAKER_01Not Elijah.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_01It's very important.
SPEAKER_00Elisha came after it's alphabetical.
SPEAKER_01Elisha. It's alphabetical. But and he he was a follower of Elijah. And Elijah is one of he he never died. He went up to heaven in a fiery chariot, you know, but did not die. And that guess Elisha, he gave Elisha his rope or something, his cloak.
SPEAKER_00And again, the the scriptures that we looked at in June 3rd, um the revelation, uh God who was and is and is to come. God is the same God that He was in the Old Testament. He is in the New Testament, and He is today.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And so this Second Kings, this miracle of feeding uh hundred men with 20 loaves, which I think it's small loaves even. Mine doesn't reference size, but still, you know, still it's like, okay, that's I guess that's pretty good. And they had leftovers. Yes. So that's a big deal. But then you get to Matthew. And there's seven loaves and a few small fish. And they fed four thousand men in addition to some women and children.
SPEAKER_01Correct.
SPEAKER_00And picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So both stories had a little bit of bread, fed a lot of people.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The Matthew one way more impressive.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But still. It's the same thing. So I believe that if if needed, God could do that today.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Well, I think in some ways he does this. It's called the church potluck. I mean, really, right? You and it was one time you bring a pot of something, and there was food for everybody and some left over. You know, it's not the same, it's not one pot, but it's the idea, you know. So when Back to God is, was, is, and shall be. In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth. Genesis. In the beginning. That's the same God. The same. He has not changed today, right?
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01Wherever that was, yeah. So so I also like Elisha and other times when you read about things, he says, he he just seems so direct. Um, you know, he says here, uh, how can I set this before a hundred men? Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the Lord says. They will eat and have some left over. Direct, specific, you know, he's not out to make a friend in this conversation, right? No. Twenty loaves of barley bread baked from the first ripe grain.
SPEAKER_00But now, what's kind of impressive with the Elisha one is says he said it before them and they ate and had some left over. So, you know, he didn't do portion control. Whereas the ones with that Jesus did, it sounded more like they kind of handed it out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, so we we cook for CR regularly.
SPEAKER_01Um celebrate recovery, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, at church. And um we plate the foods and hand the plates out because we know if we just put it out, the first few people would take a lot, and there might not be any left over for the rest. So we do portion control um and maybe don't have as much faith as Elisha did, where he just he just put it out and it's like, well, it'll be fine, there'll be some leftover. That's what God said.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And it's also interesting the barley loaf uh is a symbol of poverty and humility.
SPEAKER_02Hmm.
SPEAKER_01In ancient Israel, barley was cheaper and less esteemed than wheat, often used for animal feed or food for the poor.
SPEAKER_00Interesting.
SPEAKER_01Didn't know that. And this says Jesus uses five small barley loaves and two fish. That's to feed the five thousand.
SPEAKER_00All right.
SPEAKER_01Didn't know that about him.
SPEAKER_00All right, are you ready to move on?
SPEAKER_01Ready.
SPEAKER_00All right, June 5th, we have Genesis chapter 11, 1 through 7, and Acts chapter 2, 5 through 8. And this um all has to do with speech. So the Genesis story um is if you looked up in your Bible, would probably be labeled the the Tower of Babel. And uh the first verse says, now the whole world had one language and a common speech. Can you imagine?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. No, I can't.
SPEAKER_00So um they they all spoke the same language, and then it said they started making bricks and baking them, and then they used um they they started to build themselves a city, and with a tower that was going to reach to the heavens, it says so that we may make a name for ourselves. So they're building this tower, and God sees it and he's doesn't like it.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00He doesn't think this is a good idea. And he said, if as one people speaking the same language, they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.
SPEAKER_01They won't need him I guess. But the important, there's that, there's also, so there's nothing that is impossible for us to do. If they speak the same language, right? Right. The plan to do will be nothing they plan to do will be impossible. So if we can communicate with people, nothing is impossible. And again, don't use it to build a tower to heaven, right? Or we can make a name for ourselves, use it for something good. Is kind of the and I started thinking about this, the under the second story involved in maybe not the traditional story you read about, but this language, right? You know, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So God says, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So they all spoke the same language, and he gave them different languages. So they they couldn't keep doing what they were doing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So then you jump to Acts, and the opposite thing almost happens. So they're all in Jerusalem together, people from all countries speaking different languages, and the Holy Spirit comes, just like Jesus said.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh. And um the day of Pentecost.
SPEAKER_00It says, yeah, God fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. And there was a sound, and then people heard things being spoken in their own language. In their own language, so they they could understand. So in this case, because they all needed to hear the word, they all needed to hear what God was saying, um, they made it where everyone when they heard it, if it was their language and they could understand it.
SPEAKER_01And this lists Parthians, Medis, Elamites, residents of Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocio, Pontus, Asia, Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, parts of Libya near Cyrene, visitors from Rome, Cretans, Arabs, all sorts of people. It wasn't one or two groups, it was many.
SPEAKER_00Right, right, right. And yeah, and so I mean they were confused. Like, how how is it we're hearing this?
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Well, because God made it where they would hear their own language. I mean, just like he made it where they didn't speak the same language anymore.
SPEAKER_01Correct. Because the Genesis story, Babel, the motivation was not God focused. Their motivation was anything we could do, right? Get a name for ourselves.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And this was to spread the message.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But still had to be pretty confusing for people, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But again, another connection that I think is kind of cool, and same God.
SPEAKER_01Same God. Yep.
SPEAKER_00Doing the same type of thing.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Yep. Yep. And both times, God wanted them to focus not on themselves. So when it was all understood in their native language, right, they want to get the message. Don't worry about where you're from, who you are. This is more important. Here it's more important that you focus on God, not building yourselves up with a tower, becoming famous.
SPEAKER_00Very good. All right, June 6th. Um, probably two passages that are familiar to a lot of us, um, talking about the Lord is my shepherd. Uh, Psalm 23, 1 through 3, the Lord is my shepherd. I like it.
SPEAKER_02Most famous Psalm.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00And then John 10, 14 through 16, uh, where Jesus is speaking and says, I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep.
SPEAKER_01And my sheep know me.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Yeah. Um I I think that the connection is comforting and gives um may take away any confusion people might have. You know, the psalm, it was God. God was the Lord's my shepherd, that's who people thought of. And then Jesus comes along and they're trying to figure out who Jesus is, and he says, I'm I'm the good shepherd.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like the same language, so that they can relate it to what they already know.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00And go, okay.
SPEAKER_01And they understood being a shepherd.
SPEAKER_00Yes. In in both.
SPEAKER_01In both.
SPEAKER_00Old and New Testaments. They um.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And being a shepherd was not a um high.
SPEAKER_01It was not. It was, you know, you're out there by yourselves, you're out there at night. Uh it's it would it's not a fairly respected job. But again, but if you had sheep, you cared who the shepherd was. You know, story about David, you know, he killed a bear or something when he was just a shepherd, you know. So I think it's it's it's that people understood it. But if you had sheep, and we are the sheep, right?
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01You want to have a good shepherd. It also says in John, I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Was that that's us, I think. Foreshadowing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. I mean, if you look at that, I have sheep not of the sheep pen, it goes back to kill and eat. God has made it clean, right? There's, you know, there's other sheep out there. So but I think it really obviously, and and in John, Jesus connects himself to the Father, right?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01So it's again, it's it's it's it speaks to that whole relationship in a way people could clearly understand. And you know, when the people in Jerusalem heard I am the good shepherd, they were thinking, that's that's you know, the Lord is my shepherd. I lack nothing, you know. Now he's saying he's that person.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because he clearly wasn't a shepherd.
SPEAKER_00Right, right. But I yeah, and I can't decide if I mean I know the reference to shepherd is helpful because everyone understood that. They understood what a shepherd does. Um they understand that sheep need a shepherd, or they'll just wander off and be in trouble. Um, but I also wonder if it's, you know, I am the good shepherd, not I am the good king, I am the good some higher position. Um so that we maybe feel like we can go to him easier.
SPEAKER_01Right. He's approachable.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. And also, he cares for sheep, and he wants, you know, his job is to keep the sheep safe. Where I am the king, it's not the king's job necessarily to keep people safe. Yeah. It's a shepherd's job. But I think it's very approachable. You would talk to a shepherd, and the shepherd would answer you if you saw them in the marketplace.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01The king would not.
SPEAKER_00Because, I mean, could he have said he was a soldier? Um, because he'll fight for us and protect us and stuff like that. But yeah, is that approachable?
SPEAKER_01Right. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01And it's also a soldier is, you know, Jesus had a mission, right? But a soldier is is is by nature confrontational. Right? And and Jesus doesn't want to be confrontational, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You know, I mean, he got mad a couple times, threw the tables over, you know. But overall, I mean, he reached out to, you know, again, the woman at the well, someone who he shouldn't talk to, but he did, you know, understood it. So I think approachable, caring, right? Keeping people safe, you know.
SPEAKER_00So okay. All right. June 7th. We have Jeremiah 31, 31 through 34, and Hebrews 10, 14 through 18. Uh in Jeremiah, it says, uh, I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more. So this is God talking.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh. Um he talks about a new covenant. Right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. This is the covenant I will make.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I will put I will put my law in their hearts and write it in their minds, right in their hearts. So we will know it, right? We are to know it. And how can we know it? You can read the Bible.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00And then you turn to the Hebrews, and you know, again in Jeremiah it says, declares the Lord. In Hebrews, the Holy Spirit also testifies to us, says, This is the covenant I will make with them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00After that time, I will put my laws in their hearts, and I'll write them on their minds. Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And last week we read 1 Corinthians, where the Spirit taught mind of Jesus, right? So when the Spirit also testifies about us, that's the mind of Jesus, right? That's that's the same as God speaking, right? But the idea they have they will be forgiven. And these and where these had been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary. So it speaks again. We've changed the rule. We can eat what we want, we no longer have sacrifices. But sins are forgiven. Right.
SPEAKER_00And so these words that are the same are taken from Jeremiah. So that it's quoted from the Jeremiah passage. So God says it in Jeremiah, and then in Hebrews, when Paul is writing he did Paul write Hebrews? Is it one of those questionable ones?
SPEAKER_01I think it's a questionable one.
SPEAKER_00Um whoever wrote this used this passage from Jeremiah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um it's it's talking the it's talking about Jesus. Jesus was the new covenant. Um and so Jeremiah talked about it back whenever Jeremiah was written a long time ago. And then Hebrews quotes it and just reiterates this is this is Jesus. It's like, remember, Jesus came and died for us, and talked about it back in Jeremiah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01It says it might be Paul. The Eastern Church believes that Paul, other folks, Luke or Barnabas, Clement of Rome, or another person, Apollos. We heard his name other time. Priscilla. We heard Priscilla and Silas, they were right, Epiphys or Timothy. So we don't really know who wrote it. Is the message.
SPEAKER_00We don't know.
SPEAKER_01We don't know.
SPEAKER_00We certainly don't know.
SPEAKER_01We don't know. No, we don't know.
SPEAKER_00All right.
SPEAKER_01Then But again, it's the new covenant.
unknownYes.
SPEAKER_01Sins are forgiven.
SPEAKER_00And remembered no more.
SPEAKER_01Remember no more.
SPEAKER_00I mean, sometimes I don't remember things, but you know, the bad stuff I usually remember. Might be other stuff I do, but um. But yeah, which means God isn't going to bring it up.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00He's like, mmm, but Martha, remember last week when you're talking about it.
SPEAKER_01I really got someplace that says you have to give an accounting.
SPEAKER_00Well. It does. I don't think it's an accounting of your sins.
SPEAKER_02Okay, good.
SPEAKER_00I think it may be an accounting of um kind of like the parable of the whatever, where they each get one gets 10, one gets five, one gets one, and it's go do something with this. And then the master comes back, and the guy with 10 doubled it. And he's like, Oh, go on, you have earned whatever. And then the guy who had five doubled his. And he's like, Oh, you did great. And then the guy who had one said, Well, you know, I knew that you were something. And so I buried mine. Yeah, you I still have it.
SPEAKER_01Our master, yeah. You didn't even earn interest. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I think that's the accounting.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Romans 14 12 is the primary Bible verse stating, so then each of us will give an account of himself to God.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01This verse highlights personal accountability to God for one's actions, life, and words, often linked to the judgment seat of Christ, where believers will receive what is due for their deeds.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But I think that might be the good, hopefully the good stuff we do.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Not the sins that we Right, because the sins will be remembered.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So but like, for example, if God wants you to reach out to someone and you don't, I've often thought, uh, when based on this, it's only one verse, so it's not like everywhere in the Bible. But is God going to ask me, now, Steve? Help me understand why you didn't do that. You know. And there's different times where I've done things. Um one night I was driving home late. It was super cold. A guy was on a motorcycle, and I sense walking up top of the rest area, he's walking towards me. It was my car and the motorcycle, it's ought to be him. May have a helmet with him, I don't know. And I really felt if this person asked for money, I need to give him money. And he did ask, he needed gas, didn't have enough gas to go very far. I had a 20. You know, so I gave him $20. You know, didn't couldn't get changed. Um, but I I did say, you know, God wants me to give you this. It's on you what you do with it. You have a given accounting. If you go beer with it, that's on you. But I'm doing it, you know. But I think for me, it's what does that accounting mean? And who knows? Some what we think is an insignificant event may prove not to be, right?
SPEAKER_00And maybe you know how people complain about it's not really whatever.
SPEAKER_01About We're getting ourselves in trouble now, aren't we?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um, you know, someone who's done terrible things their entire life and then they're on their deathbed. Right. They accept God as their savior, and they get to go to heaven. And people are like, well, that's you know, that's not right. Well, maybe this accounting thing is that is, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, you're still in heaven.
SPEAKER_00But yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So you have a two o'clock meeting with God.
SPEAKER_00And you don't get to go see Shamgard.
SPEAKER_01No. On Tuesday. You'll miss Shamgard.
SPEAKER_00All right. Um, June 8th, last day for this week. Uh the theme is light. And three scriptures, because they well, because they're all connected.
SPEAKER_01Four scriptures.
SPEAKER_00Oh, four, sorry. Didn't turn the page four.
SPEAKER_01Psalm 27.1, John 8, 12, Matthew 5, 14 to 16, and 2 Corinthians 4, 6.
SPEAKER_00Yes. So Psalm 27.1 says, the Lord is my light. John 8, Jesus says, I am the light of the world. Then Matthew 5, Jesus says, You are the light of the world.
SPEAKER_01Right. And you don't cover the light.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_01You let the light shine.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00And then 2 Corinthians, um, for God said, Let light shine out of darkness.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So, and I mean, I I didn't, but it could have put Genesis down.
SPEAKER_01Right. There is light.
SPEAKER_00Where he said, Let there be light.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But he's he started the whole ball rolling.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And if you think the significance of light, we take it for granted. We get frustrated if power's out. Right? That's a disaster. Right. But they had no power.
SPEAKER_00Right. You know. We have a flashlight on our phone.
SPEAKER_01We have a flashlight on our phone. Correct. So it's not really that, right? You know. So, but Old Testament, New Testament, you know that. When the sun went down, moon came up, the moon dark. It was dark. It was dark. So light had in some ways more value, more significance in their day-to-day life, right?
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. We we totally don't understand. Um, unless you're one of those who lives in the country.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00And and you at least can experience like close to total darkness, but that's by your choice. Right. You could also easily turn on the front porch light and have light.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But they were dependent on whatever form of natural light or fire, torches.
SPEAKER_01Candles. They know they burned oil because there's a story about oil. Yes. You know, a couple of different ones.
SPEAKER_00But you also had to be um frugal about that. You couldn't just use it all up whenever you wanted. It's like, okay, it's it's dark. Do we need this light right now?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Perhaps not. But um through through all of these, light points its way to God. God is the light. God gives us light. We are the light of God to shine for other people. And the the light yeah draws us to him, provides the way to him.
SPEAKER_01And throughout, light's significant, right? And and it's it's you know, let the light shine before others. Let him see you, right?
SPEAKER_00The second Corinthians one says, May his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So kind of makes it all full circle, especially if you go back to the Genesis where he creates light.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean that's early, right?
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Like probably second verse.
SPEAKER_01Uh let there be light. Third verse. Third verse. Yeah. God said the light was good and he separated light from darkness. God called the light day and the darkness night. That was evening, that was the first day.
SPEAKER_00But the um the verse two before that says the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So yeah. So you're right. So the third verse of the Bible.
SPEAKER_00Yes. All right. That is the end of this week.
SPEAKER_01Good week.
SPEAKER_00Good, good week. I hope you all enjoyed these June passages. Make a little connection with the Old and New Testaments. Um, we will continue that next week and all through June. All right, all done?
SPEAKER_01Real quick. Revelations 21, 23, 20, 25. God is depicted as the ultimate light. Eliminating the need for the sun, moon, and artificial light in the new Jerusalem. His divine glory illuminates the city with the Lamb Jesus acting as the lamp. So it's in Genesis and Revelation.
SPEAKER_00And many places in between.
SPEAKER_01Many places in between. And if we can get the revelations real quick.
SPEAKER_00And I like that it pulls us into it. It's not just God is the light, Jesus is the light, but Jesus points to us and says, you are the light.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00It gives us some responsibility as well.
SPEAKER_01So the last chapter of Revelation is chapter 22. So it's in Genesis 1 and the first book of the Bible, the first chapter of the Bible and the last chapter of the Bible. As a reference to light.
SPEAKER_00That's crazy.
SPEAKER_01So go out and be the light.
